Hello! Thank you for checking out my website. The plan for this website is to share my thoughts on various subjects regarding fitness, workout tips and hints and eventually a video library of exercises.
If you have not met me, my name is Josh Samuelson and I have been a certified personal trainer for nearly 10 years now. I have been an avid weight lifter for 30 years now (minus about 15 years in my 20s and 30s when other things took precedence) and I have seen and done it all in the gym. I have learned a lot through my own experiences, including injuries, and through training clients of all ages and abilities.
I have personal experience in powerlifting, bodybuilding and I have even ran a full marathon and a dozen half marathons. In my training experience, I have trained high school athletes that have gone on to play collegiate sports, working men and women and retirees. There is not much I haven’t done in the weight room.
Here is a short list of things that I believe to be true, and I will go into much more detail through later posts:
- The weight room is for everyone. From hardcore bodybuilders to the 80-year old grandmother, EVERYONE can benefit from strength training.
- Form is more important than weight. Proper form not only prevents injuries, it builds muscle properly.
- The scale is the most overrated piece of equipment.
- Women will not get “bulky” by lifting weights
- Cardio is important for heart health, but weight lifting is far superior when it comes to fat loss
- You cannot train fat. 1000 crunches will not burn belly fat
- Every body is different, with different goals and needs. But fundamental lifts form the basis of every routine
- Squats and deadlifts are the most beneficial exercises in the weight room and should be done by everyone, every week
These are just a few of my philosophies when it comes to training. If you are interested in one-on-one personal training, including online training, please reach out via the Contact page.
